Many people purchase Plug and Play (PnP) monitors in order to take advantage of Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME/XP user-friendliness, so that they don't have to worry about adjusting refresh rate and resolution of the monitor.

In order to have Plug and Play work properly under Windows 95/98/Me, both monitor and graphics card must be VESA DDC1 or DDC2B compatible.

Plug and Play monitors working under Windows 95/98/Me/XP

For non-Plug and Play products, you may still need to install the latest monitor INF file in order to have Windows 95/98/ME/XP display the models not supplied on the CD-ROM or distribution disk. PTI's monitor INF file can be downloaded from our drivers page.

It is advisable that the user install the latest drivers provided by the graphics card manufacturer.

To change refresh rate for each resolution you would like to run, you may still need to run the graphics card supplied DOS or Windows utility to set refresh rate for each resolution. Check the graphics card user's manual for detail. In addition, check back with your graphics card manufacturer to see if updated Windows 95/98/ME/XP drivers is provided.

Microsoft only uses EDID to match with the INF file provided by the monitor manufacturer so that proper model name is displayed.

Connecting a PTI Monitor to the Power Macintosh

Recall that the Power Macintosh has two types of monitor connections available: HDI-45 and DB-15. The HDI-45 monitor port is built onto the motherboard of the computer. You can convert this port to a DB-15 by using the Apple Video Adapter Cable. The DB-15 monitor port is available on either the AV or VRAM expansion cards.

Select the resolution and color depth you wish to use

Obtain the corresponding PTI Apple adapter

Select which monitor port will best fit your applications

If you choose the HDI-45 port, obtain the Apple Video Adapter Cable (Part #M2681LL/A)

Plug the PTI adapter between the DB-15 connector on the Macintosh and the end of the video signal cable on the monitor

Once you have selected the resolution you wish to use and obtained the corresponding PTI Apple adapter, simply plug the PTI adapter between the DB-15 connector on the Macintosh and the end of the video signal cable from the monitor.
